It’s nice to see this sweet interview from Jenna at weheart-tv.com with True Blood’s Jim Parrack. In the interview they discuss his portrayal of Hoyt on True Blood and she asks him questions about his TV likes, other than True Blood, of course. Oh, and you have to read the part about how Jim asked Ciera to marry him! Cute interview!
Jim Parrack is no newcomer to TV. He has appeared on several hit series including Criminal Minds, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, ER…and one of my faves, Supernatural. Now THAT must have been a fun shoot- 3 born & bred- and proud- Texas boys together for a week of filming?! YeeeHaw!! Yahoo? Well, whatever it is hot Texas boys say…!
For the past 3 years Jim has starred on HBO’s smash summer hit True Blood as the gentle, innocent and super-tall Hoyt Fortenberry. Jim brings life to the down home southern mama’s boy with amazing ease and believability. I have to admit, Hoyt is among my faves in Bon Tempe and not just because he’s completely adorable. Hoyt’s a good boy, he has a good heart and he believes in people, almost blindly.
The Hoyt/Jessica love story is as tragic as it gets and Jim plays the heartbroken Hoyt with a tenderness we can all relate to. Well, relatively speaking. I mean I’ve never fallen in love with an actual vampire. Have you?
Last season Hoyt ‘grew up’ in front of our eyes as he learned the harsh lesson that even those you love most can hurt you. The loss of that unconditional trust opened Hoyt’s eyes to an entirely brand new world. Adventures ahead? I sure hope so! Oh and for the record, I personally hope those adventures involve a certain baby vampire and not Summer and her biscuits!
After talking with Jim it’s as plain as day that he and Hoyt share many intrinsic personality traits- for one, they are both honest to goodness good guys. And that’s not all I learned. What else? Well, fairy-tales do come true and I certainly feel a lot better about my 3 year old son’s Wonder Woman obsession. Read on…and see what I mean!
Jenna: So….spill, are you a mama’s boy like Hoyt?
Jim: I am a little bit of a Mama’s boy. I love my Mama. But not like Hoyt.
Jenna: LOL. I loved that arc and I miss Mrs. Fortenberry this season….will we see a reconciliation anytime soon?
Jim: I really loved it too. It reminds me a lot of The Glass Menagerie. Will we see it again??? Hmmmmm…I can’t really say ;)
Jenna: Say Hoyt and Jessica kiss and make up…Hoyt is very intense and passionate about his relationships and with Jessica he has the chance to spend eternity with her. Do you think Hoyt would be ‘turned’ for love? Why or why not?
Jim: This is a tough one…I don’t think he would be turned for love. Meaning I don’t think that he would have to be turned to have a loving life long relationship with Jess. He could have it for the length of his life. Anytime two people get married or enter a lifelong relationship, you do it knowing full well one will die first. It doesn’t cancel out the love in human/human relationship and I don’t think it does in human/lovely-red-haired-vampire relationship either.
Jenna: I love that Jason and Hoyt are roomies. Can we expect any craziness there? Other than Summer’s biscuits? I mean, 2 hot southern boys sharing a place…things could get nuts!
Jim: I think you could expect it! Doesn’t mean it’ll happen, but with those two together under the same roof, you could expect just about anything except homework.
Jenna: What’s on your bucket list?
Jim: I’d like to write a book someday as an old, old man. When I have children I want to coach their sports teams. I have made lists before and the life I’ve gotten has been SOOOO much better that I kind of gave up on them and just think about what I want to devote myself to and see what comes out of that.
Jenna: 3 things you can’t live without…
Jim: Oxygen, Water, Food.
Jenna: 3 things Hoyt can’t live without…
Jim: Someone to love, Hank Williams, his hometown
Jenna: When you talk about your wife you ooze with sweetness…What is the most romantic thing you have ever done for her?
Jim: Our engagement was pretty romantic. We had gone on a trip to San Juan Capistrano about a year after we got together. They have a Mission down there with the most beautiful and tranquil little garden amongst the old faded walls of the church. When we were leaving, we got to the exit and I was overcome with this thought, “This is where I should ask her to marry me when the time is right!!” So I turned to her and said, “Hey before we go, I want you to show me your favorite tree in this whole place.” Which gave us the chance to stroll around and be in love there a little longer and finally she found one she liked and I burned it into my memory. I stared at it and said to myself, “Don’t forget that little tree.” I did all of this because I knew someday, when I would ask her, it would be under her favorite little tree at our favorite little place. So almost a year later, I have the ring and I had asked her father for his blessing and she just thinks we are going down there to visit the Mission and walk around in the garden. She has no idea I’m gonna ask her. So we were there in the church and I went and said a prayer and then we walked into the garden and I said, “Do you remember this tree??” She said, “Yeah why do you remember it?” and I said “You told me last time it’s your favorite tree here.” She got all sweet and emotional and said “I can’t believe you remember” and I said, “Do you wanna know why I remember” and got down on my knee and told her why I remembered. That I had planned then to someday ask her here and then I asked her if she would be my wife under a strawberry tree in a fantasy garden there in the grass. It was like a fairy tale.
Jenna: OK, on that note *dreamy sigh* let’s move on to the Famous 15!!!
Jim: A disclaimer: all answers are for shows other than True Blood. It’s my favorite show right now and it would be a boring list if I was allowed to say our show :)
